OYO STATE GOVERNMENT RELEASES 1.5 BILLION NAIRA FOR GRATUITY, PENSION PAYMENT TO RETIREES

The Oyo State Government has released the sum of 1.5 billion naira as part payment of outstanding gratuity and pension arrears to retired primary school teachers and local government workers in the state.
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Oluseun Abimbola revealed this on Tuesday during a joint Press Conference in Ibadan, also explaining that the decision was taken after the out of court settlement between the state government and the Nigerian Union of Pensioners.
Abimbola further disclosed that the disbursement to retires across the state would be repeated on a quarterly basis until the entire debt was settled.
The Commissioner who noted that the accumulated arrears had begun since 2008, also said the government would be committed to gradually offsetting outstanding arrears while fulfilling its monthly obligations of pension payment to retirees.
